Visual Exploration 2: Exploring colour and mixing
Colour exploration
Inspired by Rachel Spelling, an artist known for creating miniature illustrations on colour swatches, I created tiny illustrations based on the meanings or feelings of the colours. I also used this task to practice colour mixing to match the colours on the sheet given. I used this sheet to plan some of my illustrations rather than painting straight onto it because I wanted the added challenge of matching the colours and I found the paper to be too thin to hold up when painting.
Mixing exercise
For this exercise, I was tasked to take the words from the top of the sheet and mix colours with acrylic paint which related to the word chosen.
After laying down the mixed colours I did some simple drawings on top that further conveyed why I picked the colours for the words.
For this sheet, I did the same but also mixed them together to create colours that I would have not otherwise thought to create. Interestingly the vibrant colours created a duller, desaturated colour when mixed.
